Films based on works by Aitmatov to be shown at Los Angeles Film Festival
Bishkek, Oct. 25, 2018. /Kabar/. An international Asian film festival, the Asian World Film Festival, kicked off in Los Angeles Wednesday, initiated by Kyrgyz director Sadik-Sher-Niyaz. The guests of the event will show 50 films from Asian countries. An important component of the program is a special display of films based on the works of great writer Chyngyz Aitmatov. Last year Hollywood star Angelina Jolie attended this film festival and presented her film “First They Killed My Father” The official symbol of the Asian World Film Festival is the snow leopard. The statuette is made of bronze, the author is sculptor Nurlan Kebek uulu. The festival will last until November 1st.
6th International Humanitarian Forum kicks off in Baku
The 6th Baku International Humanitarian Forum has kicked off at the Heydar Aliyev Center. President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and first lady Mehriban Aliyeva are attending the official opening ceremony of the Forum. Held under the slogan “Shaping a New World and a New Humanity: Creativity and Human Development”, the 6th Baku International Humanitarian Forum brings together 581 delegates from 86 countries and 24 international organizations. The head of state is addressing the opening ceremony of the Forum. Initiated by the presidents of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Russian Federation in 2010, the Baku International Humanitarian Forum is an annual platform for famous representatives of political, scientific and cultural elite of the world, including statesmen, Nobel Prize winners in various fields of science and leaders of influential international organizations to hold dialogues, discussions and exchange of views on a wide range of global issues. The 6th Baku International Humanitarian Forum will focus on identifying and seeking to release creative ideas and energies that can both shape tomorrow’s world as well as respond to it. The drive to encourage and enable a greater correspondence between the world as a place and the world as a community of people will build new relationships, innovative and timely discussions and positive encouragement for change in traditional approaches to human development. Following the opening speeches, the Forum will feature plenary and breakout sessions.
‘Bolton’s visit creates favorable conditions for Azerbaijan-US relations’ development’, Hikmat Hajiyev
In his interview with AZERTAC, Deputy Head of the Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Azerbaijani Presidential Administration Hikmet Hajiyev has commented the visit of the US President’s National Security Adviser John Bolton to Azerbaijan. The visit of the US President’s National Security Adviser John Bolton creates favorable conditions for the development and further deepening of the relations between Azerbaijan and the US in various directions, Hikmet Hajiyev said. He said that the meeting of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev with John Bolton was constructive and took place in an atmosphere of mutual understanding. “During the visit, there was a wide exchange of views on cooperation in such areas as energy, security and the fight against terrorism,” Hajiyev said. “Positive assessment was also given to the contribution of Azerbaijan to the peacekeeping mission in Afghanistan. It was also noted that favorable conditions were created in Azerbaijan for foreign investors, the sides discussed expansion of cooperation in the economic sphere and more active attraction of the US companies and investments to the Azerbaijani market.” Hajiyev added that Ilham Aliyev emphasized the issue of settlement of the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Considering that the US is one of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chair countries, the importance of increasing the efforts of all the co-chairs for the early settlement of the conflict and ensuring sustainable peace in the region was noted, Hajiyev said. “During the meeting, an exchange of views took place on issues on the regional and international agenda,” Hajiyev added. “As for regional issues, President of Azerbaijan once again noted that Azerbaijan has business and friendly relations with neighboring countries. As you know, Azerbaijan, guided in interstate relations by high principles of international law, constantly develops relations with neighboring countries, with the exception of Armenia for well-known reasons.”
Qatar News Agency hails relations with Azerbaijan
Director General of Qatar News Agency (QNA) Youssef Ibrahim Al-Maliki has hailed relations with Azerbaijan State News Agency (AZERTAC) as he met with Azerbaijani Ambassador to Qatar Rashad Ismayilov. “QNA maintains very good relations with AZERTAC both at bilateral and international levels.” Al-Maliki highlighted regular meetings held between heads of the two agencies. He said QNA’s delegation will take part in the 6th Baku International Humanitarian Forum to be held on October 25-26. Al-Maliki also expressed QNA’s interest in developing cooperation with Azerbaijan in the field of information. Ambassador Ismayilov highlighted the Azerbaijani government`s measures to develop media in the country. He emphasized that cooperation and information exchange play an important role in disseminating reliable information about the countries to the public. The ambassador highlighted AZERTAC`s activities in this regard. He said the agency produces news in 7 languages, including Arabic, on a round-the-clock basis.
Bolton says US to continue efforts towards settling Nagorno-Karabakh conflict
The United States will continue its efforts towards settling the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, National Security Adviser John Bolton has told a press conference on the results of his visit to Azerbaijan. On his meeting with President Ilham Aliyev, Bolton said they discussed a wide range of issues, including US-Azerbaijan cooperation, Azerbaijan’s role in the world energy market, fight against terrorism, human trafficking and illicit drug trafficking, as well as human rights, political and economic processes going on in the region, relations with regional countries. Noting that they focused on the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the US national security adviser said the settlement of the conflict is also of great importance to the US. Bolton said he will leave Azerbaijan for Armenia to get acquainted with official Yerevan's position on this issue.
