GUAM FOREIGN MINISTERS` MEETING, GUAM + JAPAN, GUAM+U.S., GUAM + CZECH REPUBLIC MEETINGS HELD IN HELSINKI
GUAM foreign ministers met in Helsinki, Finland, to discuss mutual activities on ensuring peace, security and stability within the organization`s member states and implementing decisions of the Batumi summit of GUAM heads of state held on July 1 this year.
The ministers stressed the necessity of attracting the international community`s attention to settlement of "frozen conflicts."
Meetings were held in Helsinki in GUAM-Japan, GAUM-U.S. and GUAM-the Czech Republic format, as well.
The ministers submitted proposals to the U.S diplomats which were drawn up within GUAM-U.S cooperation program on illegal drug trade, human trafficking and illegal migration.
They also discussed cooperation between GUAM and U.S. border services.

ISTANBUL (A.A) - 05.12.2008 - Turkey and Armenia have been presented with "Peace and Sport Image of the Year Award" by Monaco-based Peace and Sport Organization (Organisation pour la Paix et le Spo Sport). 

The organization said in a statement posted in its web-site, "this distinction for the best image of fraternization through sport was awarded for a photograph of the historic handshake between the President of the Republic of Turkey Abdullah Gul and the President of Armenia, Serge Sarkissian, during the qualifying match for the Football World Cup between Turkey and Armenia. Thanks to football, this moment marked the end of nearly two decades of diplomatic silence."

Mahmut Ozgener, president of the Turkish Football Federation,received the award on behalf of President Gul from Prince Albert II of Monaco. 

Ozgener said during the award ceremony that President Gul's historic visit to Armenia to watch the match proved that sport was an powerful instrument bringing peoples together and ensuring peace in the world. 

The Peace and Sport Organization aims to use sport to educate individuals and communities across the world about peace. The Peace and Sport acts to promote sport as a basis for efficient political actions and a tool for peace.

MOSCOW (A.A) - 05.12.2008 - A Turkish company laid foundation of a factory which would cost 20 million euro at a ceremony in Russia on Friday.

Turkey's Eczacibasi Construction Equipment Group broke ground for a factory where tiles will be manufactured in Serpuhov region near Moscow. Several Turkish and Russian officials attended the groundbreaking ceremony.

Ahmet Yamaner, deputy chairman of Eczacibasi Construction Equipment Group, said in the ceremony that the factory was expected to manufacture porcelain tiles as of 2010.

 BAKU (A.A) - 05.12.2008 - Turkish State Minister Kursad Tuzmen has said, "there is no change in Turkey's stance about the Upper Karabakh issue. There is an occupation in the Upper Karabakh and it must be resolved immediately. We have always supported Azerbaijani people, and we will continue to do so."

Tuzmen, who is currently in Baku, Azerbaijan together with a 150-member delegation of Turkish businessmen, told reporters, "as a result of our government's strategy for neighboring and adjacent countries, Turkish exports to those countries account for 42 percent of total exports."

"Current trade volume between Turkey and Azerbaijan stands at 2.5 billion USD. We aim at increasing this amount up to 10 billion USD in mid-term," he said. 

He added, "Turkish firms are making important investments in Azerbaijan. We, as Turkey, are proud of Azerbaijan's rapid development."  

Later, Tuzmen met Economy & Development Minister Sahin Mustafayev of Azerbaijan.

--“WE ARE PROGRESSING GRADUALLY BECAUSE WE    HAVE STARTED FROM ZERO...BUT THERE IS PROGRESS”

 

Nicosia, 4 December 08 (T.A.K):-President Mehmet Ali Talat said the negotiation process was working slowly because of a “start from zero” saying a lasting solution would only be achieved by the pushing force of international powers.

 Talat speaking to Turkish News Agency-Cyprus about the head-to-head negotiations of the Cyprus issue, told Greek Cypriot leader Dimitris Christofias was not as expected, and he sometimes felt disappointments saying Christofias had an obsession about Turkey.

     Talat also added that there was no UN paper including “single people” pointing to the fact that there were two peoples on the Island.

The President told there were decisions of Turkish Cypriot side that avoid recession and that he was against it and never supported the idea of a confederation. (RU)
